Dhiaa Jamil, ‘78,is executive vice president and chief operating officer at Duke Energy, and is responsible for all power generation in the regulated utilities, including nuclear, fossil, and hydro generation; coal ash management; environmental, health and safety; and fuels and system optimization. In addition, he has responsibility for companywide project management and construction, new plant development, and electric transmission for all of Duke Energy’s regulated utilities.
Jamil has 34 years of experience in the energy industry. Previously, he served as executive vice president and president of Duke Energy Nuclear. In that role, he had overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the largest regulated nuclear generation fleet in the U.S.
Jamil currently serves on the board of directors for Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited and is a member of the National Nuclear Training Accrediting Board. He is a former member of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations’ Executive Advisory Group, the Nuclear Energy Institute’s Nuclear Strategic Issues Advisory Committee Steering Group, the Dominion Energy Management Safety Review Advisory Committee, the TVA Nuclear Safety Review Board, and the Pacific Gas & Electric Nuclear Safety Oversight Committee. He also serves as a trustee of The Duke Energy Foundation.
Jamil received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from UNC Charlotte. He has completed the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program and Duke Energy’s technical nuclear certification program. He is also registered professional engineer in North Carolina and South Carolina.
Jamil has also served as an active member of the Board of Directors for the Charlotte Research Institute and the UNC Charlotte Foundation. Most notably, he is chair of the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) Advisory Board, and in that role he took a central role in securing funding for and guiding the development of the EPIC building and its academic programs.
Jamil and his wife, Hope, have a daughter and two sons.
